#Photo: #Dubai sunset panorama

This is actually a snapshot from a 5 gigapixel panorama - you will be able to make out the blending of the separate photographs in the sky (unfortunately!).

#Photo: #Dubai in the early morning fog in black and white

Dubaifogbw

Image number 639 of a 2019 shot timelapse.

Decided to crop it a bit (the original framing was done to take into account production to 16x9 HD) and see how it came out in black and white.

Trying to get my head around what went wrong here. The bottom centimeter or so of film didn't get exposed, but I can't work out how that could happen!

Other than that, pretty happy with it.

Looking forward to going back to the mosque in a month or so to shoot some more in less oppressive temperature and humidity.

Something has clearly gone a bit wrong with the processing on this one. Dark areas on the right hand side of the slide look very odd.

#Photo: Large format 5x7 Velvia of my cat, Moet

Moet5x7

Anyone who knows what goes into taking a picture with a large format camera will probably appreciate just how hard (or should that be stupid?) it is to use one of these things to take a picture of a cat!

I was rather pleased with the way this one came out.

Stitched from a several shifted shots from a 17mm TS-E.

The vignetting is the native vignetting of the lens when shifted.

6x17 (cm) crop from 5x7 (inches)

Again, processing went a bit wrong (that's not vignetting) :(

Processing went a bit awry with this one unfortunately, but I'm still very much in the testing phase with large format, so not overly concerned. Will definitely return and re-shoot this one in a few weeks.

#Photo: 5x7 black and white test shot of the #Dubai Fountain and Address Hotel

Scan008

This one was a real experiment - my first double exposure on film.

The problem with shooting the Dubai Fountain is that the lights that illuminate the fountains are so bright, you tend to either end up with massively over-exposed fountains, or very underexposed dark backgrounds.

Very happy with the way this one came out. As with the other 5x7's that I've posted to date, this was very much experimental. The shutter was opened for around 13-15 seconds when the fountain was not running, then closed. Then, when the fountain was going, I opened it again for a couple of seconds.

The end result is remarkably close to a decent exposure. In fact, it's probably good enough on the negative to fix in post (whether that be through traditional printing or in Photoshop). What you see is straight off the scanner, default settings, with no further adjustment.

I'm not fussed about the composition here - it was purely an exposure test. Hope to return to shot some "proper" fountain shots with the wider angle lens (a 72mm - equivalent FoV to 14mm focal length on 35mm) in the next week or so.
